After experiencing the current downpours of heavy rain it was with some apprehension that the 12 members drove into the car park of the Whitburn Golf Club.
However as the group gathered at 2.00 pm for the obligatory elbow-knocking greeting the Sun broke through the clouds and managed to stay out for the full 18 holes although the cold winds continued to blow.
The course was in surprisingly good condition although the bunkers seem to have more gravel than sand for those unfortunate enough to fall into them.
Despite not scoring on three holes (due to lost balls) Robin Down won the Rowe Trophy with a respectable score of 32. Steve Sullivan had also scored 32 (off a handle cap of 11) but lost on the count back procedure.
Although the semi relaxed Covid restrictions allowed us to enjoy a meal of either mince pie or chicken curry followed by apple crumble and custard we were obliged to sit in groups of three but the banter between the tables flowed as much as the liquid refreshments.
A good day was had by all.
