Summary:
On discovering that the NNDSGS was formed in in 1904 (only two years after ourselves) we offered a challenge to a 4 ball better ball competition between the two societies which was duly accepted.
The inaugural meeting against the NNDSGS took place at Tynemouth Golf Club and was attended by 12 of our members.
Things did not go well for the LGS:-
After a fine meal and a few drinks we all agreed that a good time was had by all and that a second event should be organised for the following year. Sadly the after dinner speeches were disrupted by an unsavoury comment passed by a NNDSGS member. The guests were later informed that although we were sympathetic to the man’s mental health issues (and wished him well in his treatment) he would not be welcome at future matches.
The NNDSGS were presented with a wooden bowl as a trophy.
